Petit Giacomo has volunteered to be the X. It involves rather more upside-down thinking than he expected. Giovanni has chosen the O, which allows him to compete while curled up. His open eye suggests he is taking this very seriously.

A small hint

Look before you leap.
Or curl.

Before choosing a square, check whether either side already has two in a line. Sometimes the cleverest move is stopping somebody else’s third. Giovanni would like to point out that this can be done while lying down.
